About the DDA

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) of Gray has achieved several significant milestones in the revitalization of Downtown Gray.

In 2015, the DDA lovingly restored the former ambulance building at the corner of Highway 129 and Atlanta Road, returning it to its original 1950s design. The completion of the vintage sign in September 2016 marked the official opening of “Main Street Station.” This historic building now serves as the home for Main Street Gray and the Gray Welcome Center, providing a dynamic space for local businesses and non-profit organizations to meet, promote their services, and engage with the community.

In collaboration with the Otis Redding Family, the DDA worked for several years to honor the legacy of this iconic artist. The Otis Redding Memorial, a tribute to the legendary musician, was unveiled alongside Main Street Station in 2016. The memorial quickly became a beloved landmark, drawing both travelers and locals who stop to listen to Otis’s music and reflect on the rich history displayed on the memorial’s wall of memories.

In 2016, the DDA also finalized the Downtown Design Guidelines, a major achievement that resulted from the collaboration of city council leaders, local volunteers, and community organizations. These guidelines ensure that new commercial developments and renovations preserve the charm and character that make Gray so special, while also fostering innovation and encouraging growth for local businesses.

Strategic real estate acquisitions in 2016 paved the way for continued redevelopment that will shape the future of our downtown for years to come. The DDA has transformed the buildings at 119, 121, and 123 West Clinton Street into vibrant spaces that now house a dynamic mix of local businesses. These properties are home to Bloom Nutrition, ReJeneration, and Cone Crazy on Main. These exciting additions to the downtown area not only boost the local economy but also contribute to the growing energy and charm of Main Street.

The DDA has also successfully renovated and transformed Butler Hall, a historic venue with deep roots in the community. Originally known as Butler’s Garage, this building was once a maintenance garage. After a visionary renovation, Butler Hall was reborn as a premier event space. Today, Butler Hall Events serves as a versatile venue for a wide range of gatherings, from weddings and corporate events to community celebrations. By preserving its unique character while adapting it for modern use, the DDA has given Butler Hall a new lease on life, offering the perfect setting for both intimate and large-scale events in the heart of downtown Gray.

The ongoing efforts of the DDA are not just about preserving the past—they’re about creating a thriving, vibrant future for downtown Gray.
